Sometimes it can be a struggle to know what to get the person you're shopping for, especially if you spend time at their place and notice that they seem to have everything already. Have you spotted a really nice coffee maker on their kitchen counter? A robust collection of mugs? Maybe even one of those fancy milk frothers you've seen all over TikTok.

So what's missing? A quality supply of coffee to fill their cups. Sure, they probably have a brand or two they rely on that they pick up at the corner shop or buy online, but a coffee subscription service can open them up to beans from new regions, grounds of different flavor and variety, and maybe even help them discover new favorites.

Gifting a coffee subscription means you’re getting them something you know they’ll use, while putting the curation in the hands of the service’s coffee experts, which means you know they’re going to get quality beans or grounds they’re sure to enjoy.

Some services cycle and theme their selections to offer a variety of flavors, while others use a quiz to help the company find the perfect blends. But every coffee subscription has the same endgame in mind: to introduce your giftee to new flavors, and help them find a new favorite to wake them up in the morning.

    What to Consider

Choosing the best coffee subscription service for the lucky coffee connoisseur in your life is largely a matter of personal preference. When looking for that hug in a mug, we recommend zooming in on what kind of roast and type of coffee (whole bean, ground, instant, or K-cups) that they’re equipped to brew. If they’re sensitive to caffeine or want to avoid it altogether, you’re obviously going to want to opt for a service that offers decaf options — we’ve highlighted several, too.

For many, sustainability initiatives and ethical sourcing when it comes to coffee purchasing are top of mind, so look for brands that partner with small farmers and implement organic practices into their coffee cultivation if that's a concern for your giftee. Supporting independent roasters is a great choice, too (Bean Box, for instance, works with indie coffee roasters across the country and Partners Coffee is a small-batch coffee roaster in Brooklyn, New York).

Last but not least, consider the amount of coffee they'll be receiving. You don’t want to saddle them with 5 pounds of espresso taking up precious counter space or have them feel pressured to chug more java than they can tolerate.

There are coffee subscriptions focused on flavor, some focused on health and wellness, and even subscriptions that will send them a good book to pair with their brew. It's all about finding the right fit for your giftee.

There are a lot of great coffee subscription options out there, but Partners edges out the rest. We love that this New York-based brand offers both gift subscription and an ongoing coffee subscription, which means your giftee can keep their favorite flavor coming, or you can even score some for yourself. Carefully sourced coffee beans are roasted in Brooklyn with this stellar coffee subscription program that allows the subscriber to choose from 13 coffee selections in a range of quantities and grinds (whole bean, drip, and cold brew, to name a few).

For us, Partners provided two delectable whole bean selections, Manhattan and Elevate. The former offered rich hints of choclate and caramel, while the latter carried a crisp autumnal taste of red apple and pecan pie.

Other offered flavors include the Jumpstart (with notes of caramel and poached pear), Ghost Town (a decaf blend with hints of white chocolate), and a rotating Roaster's Choice. With the right amount of variety to always ensure quality, Partners makes for a great coffee subscription option, starting at $16.

So maybe you're not the most knowledgeable about coffee. Maybe you feel a bit intimidated selecting blends you think your giftee would like best. In that case, you can count on Bean Box's Curator's Choice to handle the selection, with seasonally-minded offerings tailored to taste.

We put our morning brew selections in the hands of BeanBox's curators and were provided with two very different, and very delicious blends, Colombia La Piramide from Tandem Coffee Roasters in Portland, Maine and Theo Blend from Cafe Vite in Seattle, Washington

The bags’ labels provide info on the source company, their locale, and when and how they were roasted, as well as a lovingly crafted description of what flavor hints to expect. Plus, if you really love the flavor, there's a link and QR code to help you order more.

Still, you really can’t go wrong with this top-notch coffee platform which offers monthly ($24), biweekly ($22), and weekly ($20) subscription plans. World Coffee Tour, Coffee + Chocolate Tasting Box, and Bean Box Coffee Sampler all make for quality gift subscriptions too.

    Zend Coffee

The newest coffee subscription service on the block is hoping to shake up the java space by offering premium selections of both single-origin and blend coffees. Start your morning with a single-origin light roast from Tanzania or a dark espresso blend with elements from Brazil and Sumatra, and robusta beans.

But the most intriguing aspect of Zend's offerings are their three wellness-oriented functional blends, which are designed to be mixed in with any of their offered grounds. Their Recovery blend (great for the morning after a long night) is made up of turmeric root extract, cinnamon bark powder, ginger root extract, and black pepper powder, while their Serenity blend which encourages stress relief contains L-theanine and rhodiola rosea. There's also a Beauty functional blend aimed at hair, skin, and nail health which features biotin and vitamin C.

These functional blends can be mixed with any of their offered coffee grounds, and can even offer a bit of extra flavoring without ever overpowering the core coffee flavors they're mixed with. Subscriptions start at just $27.

If they're the adventurous type, and you’re looking for the most java options, go for Caribbrew (you can also check them out on Amazon here). Flexibility is the name of the game here, with K-cups, ground, or whole beans available, starting at 1 pound for $20.

The socially conscious, minority-owned company partners with more than 4,000 small-scale coffee growers in Haiti, so they'll know that each cup they enjoy is also making an impact in impoverished communities. The organically grown, roasted-to-order coffee is absolutely delectable, to boot.

For health-focused and eco-conscious coffee sippers, take comfort in knowing that each batch of Kion Clean Coffee is sourced from 100% organic arabica beans that are grown and harvested on sustainable, fair-trade coffee cooperatives.

The company also regularly tests its coffee for icky substances like mold, mycotoxins, and pesticides. Bonus: The coffee is packaged in nitrogen-flushed bags to seal in freshness.

We’re obsessed with the Dark Roast and Decaf Whole Bean also on offer. Score a single bag subscription for $24, or three for $73.

    Lattes

Shopping for somebody committed to the vegan lifestyle? Or very particular about what ingredients go into their morning brew? Daily Harvest has their hookup.

We’re obsessed with this plant-based brand (which made the cut for our favorite vegan meal delivery services). From ice cream and smoothies to flatbreads and oat bowls, DH has it all. They’re also here to fulfill health enthusiasts’ latte fantasies. The coffee and almond lattes are heavenly, and java junkies will likely also swoon for their chaga (a type of mushroom) and chocolate lattes, matcha and lemongrass lattes, and ginger and turmeric lattes.

Your health-focused friend can enjoy 'em hot and cold and rejoice in knowing they're made with real, wholesome ingredients, sans fillers or added sugars. They can pause, skip, or cancel their Daily Harvest weekly deliveries at any time, but if they supercharge their mornings with these fine lattes starting at just $5.99 per two cups, we doubt they’ll want to anytime soon.
